James & Lucy | The Oakwood at Ryther wedding

The Oakwood at Ryther wedding photography.

New venues always offer fresh creativity, that’s why I love them. James and Lucy chose The Oakwood at Ryther, near Leeds, a newly converted series of barns gave a fantastic and homely backdrop to their wedding.

It was one of the largest weddings I’d worked since the Covid Pandemic, so it felt a little daunting at first addressing the guests during the guest shots. I soon returned to the pre-Covid me and got on with the job. That out of the way, It was lovely just to be able to snap and document the day in such a beautiful venue, although the temperature was a little fluctuant, it was nice to have some sunshine.

As a documentary wedding photography, I love the natural images and the main aim of my job is to capture emotion, this is something that can’t be forced and needs capturing naturally. I usually see brides and sometimes grooms looking very nervous and anxious, but with Lucy it was tears of joy with a broad, shining smile it seemed a perfect time to press the shutter capturing an emotional memory.

My day ended with the speeches, when I left the evenings frivolities were getting ready to start. The bright sunshine from earlier had morphed into night, beaconing me to drive home.
